The trees were all dead, swamp trees. Here you have to watch where you walk because the ground plays tricks on the eye. What looks like a safe spot could be a thin layer over the green-gray water. It is here so many have wandered into and never come out, either lost or sunk into the mud. Some even go so far as to claim the woods are haunted.

A cliff covered in moss, overgrown with trees, and a dangerous optical illusion about how far it really goes out. A small path leads down its side into a small valley were a lake once lay, now inhabited only by a single giant bolder and many ferns and trees. But is the caves under the cliffs that call to many, either as shelter or a good spot to wait for a deer to pass by.

Shadows always give illusion a bit of help. Here is no exception. These woods are near the western area of the land and are the largest (and perhaps most ominous) of any. There are hills and slopes throughout, and caves open in small holes under boulders and trees. Though an adult wolf might not fall in, puppies have been known to vanish into these holes.

The glacial lake that is centerpiece to the lands is not just big. Its humongous. Reaching all points of these lands, not only is it big, but its deep. There is a waterfall at the eastern end of it, and many places where the lake bleeds out into smaller streams. This lake is both fed and feeds into Eagle River.

No one truly knows how the woods here became as they are today. Twisted and scarred, some say they were victims of a forest fire. The woods here like to play tricks too, loosing your sense of direction is common here.
